Integrated modeling analysis of estuarine responses to extreme hydrological events and sea-level rise

چکیده

Estuaries are vulnerable to climate change and particularly sensitive extreme river discharge (RD) sea-level rise (SLR). To understand the effects of RD SLR on estuaries, an integrated modeling approach is adopted simulate hydrodynamic changes in Yangtze River Estuary. Model results showed that will intensify estuarine hydrodynamics water level, currents, salinity. Water current speed, salinity increased linearly with magnitude SLR. The hydrological model suggested a lower future. This increase saltwater intrusion, which be more severe during drought event (EHE) conditions. also intrusion than In addition, interplay between exacerbate impacts coastal oceans hydrodynamics, especially extremely low Moreover, decrease deepening channel due human activities amplify Estuary, increasing risk disasters. • An hydrologic-hydrodynamic was established. Sea-level leads linear overall but nonlinear each bifurcation. drier future, leading longer length saline estuary. Extreme events

Vegetation responses to extreme hydrological events: sequence matters.

Extreme hydrological events such as flood and drought drive vegetation dynamics and are projected to increase in frequency in association with climate change, which could result in sequences of extreme events. However, experimental studies of vegetation responses to climate have largely focused on responses to a trend in climate or to a single extreme event but have largely overlooked the poten...

Mitigation and Adaptation Responses to Sea Level Rise

Owing to climate change, according to annual Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports, sea level rise is inevitable. The sea level rise in different parts of the coastal areas in the world continents, may be calculated and thus predicted for ten years in the future, a hundred years out and beyond, with decreasing confidence. Amongst experts, the amount of sea level rise at diffe...

Probabilistic Sea-Level Rise Hazard Analysis

This paper proposes a framework termed Probabilistic Sea-Level Rise Hazard Analysis (PSLRHA), to integrate the sea-level rise knowledge of current climate change scientific communities for informed engineering and policy decisions that affect coastal infrastructure, populations, and ecosystems. PSLRHA combines probabilities of all emission scenarios with predictions of the resulting sea-level r...

Contemporary sea level rise.

Measuring sea level change and understanding its causes has considerably improved in the recent years, essentially because new in situ and remote sensing observations have become available. Here we report on most recent results on contemporary sea level rise. We first present sea level observations from tide gauges over the twentieth century and from satellite altimetry since the early 1990s. W...
